Rutgers, The State of New Jersey is seeking a Temporary Research Assistant for Rutgers Institute for Translational Medicine and Science (RITMS) within Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences.
The Rutgers Institute for Translational Medicine and Science (RITMS) was founded in January 2016 and is directed by the Vice-Chancellor for clinical and translational science, Dr. Reynold Panettieri. RITMS conducts basic research in immunology, physiology and molecular biology. RITMS provides unique opportunities for undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral research and clinical education, and cooperative education training. The program is interdisciplinary by nature.
This position requires performing a broad range of experiments in cell and molecular biology, tissue cultures, and animal work, as well as, learning to process clinical samples. The methods will include DNA/RNA isolation, ELISAs, protein assays, gel electrophoresis, western blotting, and single-cell and single-molecule biophysical assays (magnetic twisting cytometry, Fourier transform traction microscopy, and DNA double-helix based single-molecule tension probe). The PI will design experiments, but the applicant will be expected to troubleshoot these procedures as needed. Accurate notebooks must be kept. Data analysis and assistance in publication preparation is also required. Additional duties include assisting in experimental design and participating in general laboratory activities.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Culturing different lung cell types (both primary cells and cell lines).
- Performing human and murine Precision Cut Lung Slice (PCLS) experiments.
- Performing immunological assays (immunofluorescent staining, ELISA, western blots, immunoprecipitations, and flow cytometry/FACS).
- Performing molecular biology techniques (PCR & real time-PCR techniques, DNA and mRNA sample preparation, plasmid DNA preparation, DNA subcloning, and siRNA/shRNA transfections).
- Data analysis and assistance in publication preparation.
- Additional duties include assisting in experimental design and participating in general laboratory activities.
