Job Description:
To work collaboratively with physicians, at the point of care on a concurrent basis; to capture complete and accurate documentation to assure that the appropriate Diagnostic Related Group (DRG) has been assigned; to assess current compliance activities, identify areas of risk, and evaluate risk factors in coding and documentation practices; to develop and implement an education plan to communicate the principles and importance of documentation improvement to members of the medical staff and other members of the healthcare team; and to serve as a resource on DRG issues.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Must have and maintain a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Nursing (RN) or will consider Medical Doctorate (MD) degree. CCDS & CDIP highly desirable.
2. Successfully pass an internal coding test with a score of 85% or better.
3. Reasonable knowledge of medical terminology, treatment methods, patient care assessment, data collection techniques, and coding classification systems is necessary.
4. One to three years’ experience with ICD-10-CM/PCS coding is necessary.
5. Extensive knowledge of reimbursement systems.
6. Extensive knowledge of federal, state, and payer-specific regulations and policies pertaining to documentation and coding.
7. Knowledge of software applications related to Coding (encoder/grouper) is necessary.
8. Excellent organizational, management, planning, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills are necessary.
9. Ability to work both as a team player and independently.
10. Strong analytical skills.
11. Demonstrated aptitude for quantitative analysis and attention to detail.
12. Able to identify problems and find creative, effective solutions.
13. Able to balance multiple priorities
14. Presentation skills are necessary.
