Public Safety, in partnership with the University community, supports the mission of Wesleyan University by providing a wide range of services and assistance to members of the Wesleyan and surrounding communities. Public Safety is a 24/7/365 operation that is vital for the safety and continued functioning of the community.
Reporting to the Associate Director of Public Safety the Supervisor, is responsible for the preservation of peace, protection of life and property, prevention of crime and proper enforcement of the rules and regulations established by the University. The supervisor will supervise and direct staff assigned to the shift.
Responsibilities include:
- Provide supervision of third shift Public Safety Officers in a 24/7 operation
- Conducting staff briefing at the start of each shift
- Issuing and inspecting equipment
- Carrying out and enforcing Wesleyan rules, regulations and policies, particularly the Code of Nonacademic Conduct
- Conducting field inspections Transport students
- Exercising discretion in all situations and notifying appropriate personnel
- Receiving and reviewing reports and following up and conducting investigations as necessary
- Maintaining records and completing assignments Interacting with other law enforcement and public agencies on matters related to the university community.
- Protecting the scene of a crime or accident
- Conducting thorough preliminary investigations of crimes or accidents and obtaining necessary internal or external support services Providing immediate aid in the event of accident or sudden illness
- Checking the security of university buildings and property Maintaining fire protection/safety Providing a variety of special security services Patrolling campus on foot, by motor vehicle and bicycle
- Providing back up to central communications dispatch team as assigned
- Performing other similar and related duties as assigned.
This is a full-time, 40 hours per week position in the public safety department and is a part of the supervisory team. Members of the supervisory team support the demands of a 24X7X365 operation.
This position is classified as essential personnel. Positions that are designated as such are required to report to work/remain at work even if classes are cancelled, and the campus is working on limited operations in an emergency.
