Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Mental Health Specialist II for Lifeline National Backup Center within Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care.
The Mental Health Specialist II performs functions in support of the Unit’s mission providing streamlined, prompt, and “customer friendly” services to callers of the Lifeline National Backup Center. Receives telephone requests for service, undertakes assessment of the service need of the caller or customer, and responds by offering support and appropriate referrals or disposition. Demonstrates competency in recognizing the unique needs of callers and applying relevant assessment and support skills with regard to a wide range of issues.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Interacts with caller in a therapeutic manner.
- Models for callers’ good communication skills, recovery-oriented living skills, effective coping skills, and self-help strategies as observed by supervisor and as indicated by feedback from callers and team members.
- As part of the Call Center, actively participates in ensuring the telephone calls/service requests are handled in an effective and “caller friendly” manner.
- Obtains information from callers in accordance with the Unit protocols and accurately and appropriately inputs data in unit’s informational system, as observed by supervisor.
- Assesses caller’s condition in order to make/authorize an appropriate disposition.
- Assumes overall management for completion of call and documentation for disposition.
- Documents assessments, interventions, and interactions with callers in a timely manner and in accordance with established policies.
