Licensed Practical Nurse

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse for the Division of Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine (DAYUM) within the New Jersey Medical School. Under the direction of the Medical Director, the Licensed Practical Nurse will engage adolescents and young adults (AYAs) in the clinic under the guidance of a physician and Advance Practice Nurse (APN). The LPN provides clinical expertise in family planning and prevention strategies, and provides assessment, planning, and treatment of HIV/STI positive youth in the Division of Adolescent & Young Adult Medicine (DAYAM). Functions in a variety of roles including clinical, administrative, and centralized services depending on the needs of the clinic. Provides patient care according to Rutgers protocols and policies and the professional standards of the American Nurses Association. Complies with all regulatory requirements, including OSHA, CLIA, Title X, CDC, DEA, and the New Jersey Department of Public Health. Complies with all LPN related documented workflows including the follow-up and referral procedures. Works collaboratively with all clinic staff and managers to contribute to a positive work environment.
DAYAM believes sexual and reproductive health is essential to every person’s overall health, well being and happiness. We recognize that geographical and systemic barriers entrenched in discrimination and stigma prevent adolescents from having equitable opportunity to choose their own path and access to sexual and reproductive health care. In order to address health equity in the greater Newark area in an authentic way, we provide family planning services to our patients regardless of their ability to pay.

Among the key duties of this position are the following;

  • Works in the DAYAM clinic under guidance of physicians and APN and performs needed clinical tasks including registration, taking histories, distribution/administration of medication, coordination of referrals, pre-authorizations, and other services as needed.
  • Facilitates patient flow in the clinic in conjunction with the APN.
  • Takes responsibility for ensuring prompt clinic start to ensure smooth patient flow.
  • Performs and or assists with patient intake which may include registration, health history taking, vital signs and patient education.
  • Performs and or assists with patient discharge, follow up appointment, coordination of care, referrals and linkage as needed.
  • Assists the physician with the correct ordering of all labs and diagnostics in Epic EHR per follow-up procedures and ensures specimens are collected prior to patient departure from the clinic.
