Custodian

Position Summary:

The University of Wisconsin-Baraboo Sauk County seeks a full-time custodian to perform a wide variety of duties including, but not limited to, working with chemicals to perform cleaning of assigned areas, removing waste and recyclables, assisting with staging areas for meetings and conferences, monitoring building security and safety, and performing grounds maintenance activities such as pruning trees and shrubs as well as winter snow removal on walkways and building entrances. The employee must be able to work alone and with other team members as directed and capable of changing work assignments as needed to cover for other personnel.

This is a full-time, 12-month, position with some work required beyond normal business hours and weekends.  Position comes with excellent fringe benefits-medical, dental, paid leave, Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS) retirement benefits, and more!  Wage for position is $13.51/hour.

Responsibilities:

  • Utilizes basic equipment and supplies to clean assigned facility areas and remove waste and recyclables
  • Monitors and secures facility interior and exterior entrances and reports issues to appropriate entities
  • Maintains organization and supply areas and equipment, documents inventory, and requests additional supplies as needed
  • Documents and reports repairs, violations, and pest control needs
  • Maintains clean and clear walkways to ensure they are free of debris, litter, snow, and ice
  • Provides custodial services in state operated buildings as directed by the building and grounds supervisor and lead custodian
  • Assists with special projects and events
  • Maintains the physical appearance of building exteriors and adjacent grounds

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

  • High school diploma/GED
  • Ability to work independently and with co-workers with patience and attention to detail
  • Possess knowledge and proper use of Personal Protective Equipment as well as safe use of hand tools and small power equipment
  • Ability to work after hours and weekends when needed.
