During the summer, students may schedule up to two weeks off for vacation, subject to supervisors’ approval. Student will work 9 am – 12 pm and 1 pm – 4:30pm Monday – Friday in June and the same hours from Monday through Thursday in July, at the Conservatory Library for a maximum total of 32.5 hours.
Applicants MUST be currently enrolled Oberlin College or Conservatory students to qualify for summer work.
- check-in/out library materials
- retrieve items for patrons from reserve and hold shelves
- answer questions regarding reserve loan policies
- enforce library policies.
Over the course of training with library staff, you will become fluent in using both Library of Congress and Dewey Decimal classification systems. You will also learn the ins and outs of the library catalog, circulation software, and collection navigation. You will use this knowledge to assist library patrons in your front-line service position at the circulation desk.
Special Summer Projects/Responsibilities:
- cleaning book shelves
- preparing journals for the bindery and processing upon return
- processing reserve materials
- searching for missing books
- shifting parts of the collection
- misc. duties as assigned.
