Assistant Dean/Director of Community Standards

Rutgers University- Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise is seeking an Assistant Dean/Director of Community Standards (ADDCS). Reporting to the Dean of Students, this position is responsible for helping to ensure the quality of life for the student experience and to provide safe spaces for all students. Responsibilities include and are not limited to the following.

  • Coordinates and advocates for institutional resources toward supporting students in need and mitigating circumstances that might distract them from their academic and personal development;
  • Develops educational programming to communicate RU-N community standards;
  • Lads in operating a student conduct system that holds RU-N students accountable for maintaining community standards;
  • Responsible for supporting all major student life large scale programs;
  • Serves as a member of the RU-N CARE Team and point of contact for students in crisis and or students that need resources or referrals within the University;
  • Works closely with the DS/AVC, often the ADDCS acts as a liaison and mediator for several key University Offices: Residence Life; the Student Ombudsperson; Financial Aid and Student Accounts; Academic Services, advisers, and all academic departments and units; the Rutgers Police Department; Legal Services; Counseling Services; Health Services/Education and outreach; and student organizations, leadership and governance;
  • Shares in the responsibilities of advising RU-N student governing councils, including the Honor Council;
  • Supervises a staff including an Assistant Director, a Program Coordinator, a graduate student coordinator, student assistants and several office work study assistants.
